From the Editor: Stay Warm with MTT!
From the editor's desk, welcome to the February issue of the IEEE MTT-S e-newsletter; the official monthly e-newsletter for the MTT-S members.
It's winter time (at least for those in the northern hemisphere). The best thing to do is to stay home and stay warm with MTT! That means more reading time. Do you know about our new IEEE Transactions on Terahertz Science and Technology? In it's second volume of the year, this journal packs nice background information for novice like me and the latest developments for experts in the know. Why not take this opportunity to keep up with the latest?

MTT-11 Design Contest for IMS 2012 - Development of a Large-Signal-Network-Analyzer Round-Robin Artifact
The MTT-11 Technical Committee on Microwave Measurements is pleased to announce a Student Contest for IMS 2012 to design and realize an artifact/circuit to verify the performance of different large-signal network analyzers (LSNAs) for the characterization of nonlinear microwave devices. LSNAs can measure the performance of nonlinear circuits and devices, including the magnitude and phase of the fundamental, and any harmonics created by the nonlinearity of the circuit. The goal is to design and fabricate a circuit rich in nonlinear content that can be used to verify the performance of an LSNA. More IMS2012 contest information can be found at http://www.mtt-archives.org/~mtt11/.
IMS2012 PhD Students Sponsorship Initiative
This new initiative is available for all PhDs students (worldwide) who are in their 1st/2nd year of their studies. The initiative provides sponsorship to attend IMS2012 in Montréal Canada.
The Sponsorship includes:

Member-get-a-Member Program
Peer-to-peer referral is the most prominent means of member recruitment. Individuals are not likely to join IEEE unless they are asked. Now, you can get rewarded for sharing your IEEE membership experience with a colleague. Through the Member-Get-a-Member program, IEEE rewards your efforts in recruiting new members. Your local IEEE Section can also benefit.
For each new member you recruit, you earn an award which can be used toward IEEE dues, MTT-Society fees or the purchase of IEEE products and services. During the 2012 membership year (16 August 2011 through 15 August 2012), the IEEE MGM Program offers the following award schedule to members who recruit other individuals into IEEE membership.
Professional members can earn:
- US$15 for each Professional member recruited;
- US$5 for each Professional member recruited to e-Membership (offered in developing nations only);
- The maximum amount a member can earn during the membership year is US$90.
Student members can earn:
- US$2 for each Student or Graduate Student member recruited;
- US$15 for each Professional member recruited;
- US$5 for each Professional member recruited to e-Membership (offered in developing nations only);
- The maximum amount a member can earn during the membership year is US$90.
The IEEE even provides you with referral cards you can print and handout to your colleagues: http://www.ieee.org/documents/09-MEMB-0436-MGM-Averycards-R1.pdf

Call For Papers: ARFTG 79th Conference, IMS week in Montréal, June 22, 2012 Late News Papers
ARFTG opens a second call for papers, deadline 26th February. This call offers the possibility to send abstracts of recent interesting/innovative/research results in the area of RF Measurements and NonLinear RF Devices Measurements. The full CfP with the instructions for authors is at: http://www.arftg.org/conferences/79th_conference.html.
Paper acceptance will be communicated by March 26th, 2012; publication-ready paper due in pdf format by April 15th, 2012.
Paper submission deadline: 26 February, 2012
Call for Papers: 2012 IEEE International Conference on Ultra-Wideband (ICUWB2012)
The 12th ICUWB Conference will be held at Sheraton Syracuse University Hotel & Conference Center in Syracuse, NY USA on 17 – 20 September 2012. This conference is cosponsored by the IEEE Syracuse Section, IEEE MTT Society, and Syracuse University. It is also technically supported by the IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS), IEEE Communication Society (ComSoc), and IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society (AP-S).
This event provides a forum for the latest UWB systems, technologies and applications in both microwave and millimeter wave bands. At the ICUWB2012, we encourage experts, researchers, and students to submit previously unpublished original research and development related to UWB (bandwidth greater than 500 MHz or 20%). Syracuse will be a great opportunity to communicate and exchange the latest UWB developments and innovations with fellow researchers and student delegates. We are also inviting leading experts from industry and academia to submit workshop/tutorial proposals showing important aspects of UWB system designs. Moreover, we invite research and commercial organizations to exhibit their latest state-of-the-art UWB products during this event.
More information including the complete Call-for-Papers is available through ICUWB2012 website at www.icuwb2012.org.
Paper submission deadline: 9 March 2012
