Invitation to RFIC 2011
2011 IEEE Radio Frequency Integrated Circuits (RFIC) Symposium will take place in Baltimore, Maryland 5-7 June, 2011. This year's exciting technical program will showcase the latest innovations in RF integrated circuit design with 130 papers in 23 technical sessions that cover a broad spectrum of topics from cellular and wireless-connectivity system ICs, broadband wireless communications, digitally enhanced RF circuits, silicon mm-Wave ICs, RF device technology, modeling, and characterization. Applications highlighted by the technology include mobile phones, wireless communication systems, broadband access modems, radar systems and intelligent transport systems. The panel sessions will feature “Software Defined Radios – Facts and Fantasies” and “What is the limit of multi-radio integration… or rather, is it ‘disintegration’?”

Royally Honored Professor J. David Rhodes to Speak at IMS2011
Professor J. David Rhodes, CBS, FRS, FR Engineering Emeritus Professor at the University of Leeds, will be the plenary session speaker on Monday, June 6 at the IEEE MTT-S 2011 International Microwave Symposium (IMS).
Since founding Filtronic more than 30 years ago, Rhodes has received the OBE (the Officer of the Order of the British Empire) and CBE (the Commander of the Order of the British Empire) from the Queen as well as numerous Technology and Export awards including the Microwave Prize.
In his plenary session talk, “Migration of WCDMA and 4G LTE into Existing Cellular Bands,” Rhodes will discuss issues and design techniques for optimizing WCDMA and LTE performance.
“Gaining insight into strategy and development from a royally decorated expert who helped shape the industry is invaluable to anyone in our field,” said Jeffrey M. Pond, IMS Symposium General Chair. “By sharing his deep knowledge of design techniques and connecting them to present challenges, Rhodes will undoubtedly equip attendees with information they can apply to their respective projects and endeavors.”

MTT-S Chapter Chairs' Meeting and Tutorial & Workshops at IMS'2011

representatives are cordially invited to the MTT-S Chapter Chairs'
Meeting (CCM) and the related Tutorial & Workshop (T&W), both of which will be held in conjunction with the 2011 International Microwave Symposium (IMS) in Baltimore, MD on Tuesday, June 7th. Visit our ground-up Tutorial & Workshop session 3:00 PM-5:00 PM where we will run the gamut of hands-on information and tricks that each chapter chair and chapter officer needs to know for running a chapter smoothly. This introductory course is especially suggested for newer chairs-but will also offer a lot of ammunition and know-how to the seasoned ones. After a social hour break, including our poster session, we will hold our formal CCM 6:00 PM-7:00 PM.
Ideally, every chapter in Regions 1-10 should send at least one
representative to join in the CCM. If the chair is not able to come to
IMS2011, it would be a perfect opportunity to have another chapter
officer or a designated representative visit the CCM instead. There is some secondary travel-fund support available for chapter chairs or their designated chapter representatives, up to $1,500 per chapter. For further details please contact directly the MTT-S MGA Membership

Nominations for IEEE Medals and Recognitions
The IEEE Awards Program provides peer recognition to technical professionals whose exceptional achievements and outstanding contributions have made a lasting impact on technology, society, and the engineering profession.
The IEEE Microwave Theory and Techniques Society members may be particularly interested in the following IEEE Medals and Recognitions, whose nomination deadlines are 1 July 2011. The awards typically consist of a medal, certificate and honorarium and are presented at the distinguished IEEE Honors Ceremony.
- IEEE Medal of Honor, for an exceptional contribution or an extraordinary career in the IEEE fields of interest.
- IEEE Founders Medal, for outstanding contributions in the leadership, planning, and administration of affairs of great value to the electrical and electronics engineering profession.
- IEEE James H. Mulligan, Jr. Education Medal, for a career of outstanding contributions to education in the fields of interest of IEEE.
- IEEE Dennis J. Picard Medal for Radar Technologies and Applications, for outstanding accomplishments in advancing the fields of radar technologies and their applications.
- IEEE Jack S. Kilby Signal Processing Medal, for outstanding achievements in signal processing.
- IEEE Jun-ichi Nishizawa Medal, for outstanding contributions to material and device science and technology, including practical application.
- IEEE Medal for Innovations in Healthcare Technology, for outstanding contributions and/or innovations in engineering within the fields of medicine, biology and healthcare technology.
- IEEE Edison Medal, for a career of meritorious achievement in electrical science, electrical engineering or the electrical arts.

Awards presented by the IEEE Board of Directors fall into several categories: The Medal of Honor, Medals, Technical Field Awards, Corporate Recognitions, Service Awards, and Prize Papers. The IEEE also recognizes outstanding individuals through a special membership category: IEEE Honorary Member.
Nominations are initiated by members and the public, and then reviewed by a panel of peers. Their recommendations are submitted to the IEEE Awards Board prior to final approval by the IEEE Board of Directors.

RWW 2012: First Call for Papers
The 2012 IEEE Radio and Wireless Symposium (RWS2012) will be held during the week of 15 January, 2012 in Santa Clara, CA, USA. This year, a new demo track will be held to provide an interactive
forum for hands-on demonstration of latest wireless experiments and innovations. As with previous years, RWS2012 and SiRF2012 will continue to hold joint sessions. Three topical conferences held in parallel provides more focused sessions in the areas of Power Amplifiers for Wireless and Radio Applications (PAWR), Biomedical Wireless Technologies and Sensing Systems (BioWireleSS), and Wireless Sensors and Sensor Networks (WiSNet).
